Trains Running on Time
I'm more surprised when the trains are on time than when they're running late. We're on our way to Orvieto now, having just hopped (literally) onto a moving train that was pulling away after a sprint down the hill. We didn't have time to validate our tickets or collect our change, so we had to play that cat and mouse game of 'find the conductor' to have our tickets punched. If the holder of an unvalidated ticket finds the man in the green jacket, there is no fine and he just signs the ticket. If the man in the green jacket finds the holder of an unvalidated ticket, the passenger has to pay a fine that is some absurd multiple of the ticket's purchase price, which is payable on the spot. I found the man in the green jacket, and therefore wasn't fined.
